Exhausted
 by the Foo Fighters

Transcription by Anthony Tong (ad201@torfree.net).

Dropped-D tuning (D-A-D-G-B-E). Crank up the FUZZ!

Chords used:
Asus2 add? - x 0 2 2 0 1
E/B add? - x 2 x 0 0 1
C - x 3 2 0 1 0
Am - x 0 2 2 1 0
Bb5 - x 1 3 3 x x
G - 5 5 5 x x x

Verse/Intro
-----------
 Asus2add?, E/B add?, C, Am, C, Am

Despite of the weird chord (names) it's pretty easy to play.
It's tough to tab because of the picking pattern. Listen to the
  song to figure it out.

Pre-Chorus
----------
 Bb5 Am G

Chorus/Instrumental Section
---------------------------

G ---------------------------------|-5-5-5---
D --3--5--7--5--0-3-0-3-0-3-5--7~--|-5-5-5---
A --3--5--7--5--0-3-0-3-0-3-5--7~--|-------- <<--this part not
D --3--5--7--5--0-3-0-3-0-3-5--7~--|-------- <<--always played
    F G A G D F D F D F G A C/G

There's some sort of slide/pick scrape before the chorus.. probably
on the low D. Just fake it :-)

Bridge/Interlude
---------------
There's some weird feedback/noise, the verse is played quietly by
second guitar and bass. Near the end of the verse Am is played loudly
 and repeatedly.

>From what I can tell the bass doubles the guitar.

Sorry for being sorta cryptic on how the song is pieced together, but
there should be enough so that you can play along with the song.
And pardon for the Internet advertising, but get the Foo Fighter's
album--it's GREAT!

I'm pretty sure of this one (except for chord names) ;-), but don't
hesistate to e-mail me with comments, questions, whatever at:

Tabbed by Jeff Aldrich (ArglBargle@aol.com)
New Intro Tabbed by Bill Bright (bright@erda.rl.af.mil)

Alrighty then...

Exhausted, by Foo Fighters...wow this is my first transcription, but I
think I got it right. I looked for this song after watching Foo Fighters'
I'm ok, Eur ok concert on MTV and I noticed that Dave Grohl plays the
opening chord with a simple open Dm chord...but when I tried to figure the
song out by ear, I couldn't, so I went to ***OLGA***. Anyway, I played the
tab that it came with and you know, it didn't sound quite right, so here's
my interpretation of the intro/verse...

It's still in the drop D tuning...

Intro/Verse:

e:---------1------------|----------1------------|
B:---------3----3-----3-|----------3----3-----3-|
G:---------2-------2----|----------2-------2----|
D:-0----0---------------|-0----0----------------|
A:-0----0---------------|-2----2----------------|
D:-0----0---------------|-x----x----------------|
I'm not around that much. I'm

e:----------0------------|-----------0------------|
B:----------1----1-----1-|-----------1----1-----1-|
G:----------2-------2----|-2----2----2-------2----|
D:-x----x----------------|-2----2-----------------|
A:-3----3----------------|-0----0-----------------|
D:-3----3----------------|-x----x-----------------|
  near exhausted

e:----------0------------|-----------0------------|
B:----------1----1-----1-|-----------1----1-----1-|
G:----------2-------2----|-2----2----2-------2----|
D:-x----x----------------|-2----2-----------------|
A:-3----3----------------|-0----0-----------------|
D:-3----3----------------|-x----x-----------------|
                      and lost.

...everything else seemed fine, if played right, you should be able to play
this with minimal hand movement. The way I play the intro Dm chord is also
a prep for the second chord...

Dm (prepped for E/B)

   D A D G B e
   +==============+ nut
   | | | | | 1
   +--------------+ 1st fret
   | (2) | 3 | | <-------- here, your middle finger (2) should
   +--------------+ 2nd fret... wait over the A string. It's a bit
   | | | | 4 | unnatural, but it really speeds the
+--------------+ playing up quite a bit, I tell ya!!
   | | | | | |
   +--------------+
   | | | | | |

Besides that, Jeff Aldrich's | transcription seems to sound just fine!

   FOO FIGHTERS

    Exhausted
==================
Tabbed by Jeff Aldrich (ArglBargle@aol.com)

This last song on the album was not easy to Tab, because I'm sure it's
played with two guitars. Therefore, trying to play or TAB the song for
only one guitar presents a few problems. I've written down what I
figure are the easiest ways to play the riffs (making sure there are no
times that require seven fingers or a 19 fret stretch.) I really need
input on this one, even if you figure out a way to play one little
figure a little differently, please write to me. Enough suggestions will
make the TAB easier to play. Maybe there is only one guitar, and I'm
overlooking some easy way to play it.
This song is played in Drop-D tuning, where you tune your low E string
down to a D (the same as Alone+Easy Taget.)

Intro/Verse:

e:---------1------------|------------------------|
B:--------------3--0--3-|----------6-------0-----|
G:----------------------|--------------7-------7-|
D:-0----0---------------|-5----5-----------------|
A:-0----0---------------|-5----5-----------------|
E:-0----0---------------|-5----5-----------------|
I'm not around that much. I'm

e:----------0------------|-----------0------------|
B:---------------1-----1-|------------------------|
G:------------------2----|----------------5-----5-|
D:-3----3----------------|-7----7------------7----|
A:-3----3----------------|-7----7-----------------|
E:-3----3----------------|-7----7-----------------|
  near exhausted

e:----------0------------|-----------0------------|
B:---------------1-----1-|------------------------|
G:------------------2----|----------------5-----5-|
D:-----------------------|-7----7------------7----|
A:-3----3----------------|-7----7-----------------|
E:-3----3----------------|------------------------|
                      and lost.

  Pre-Chorus:

e:-------------------------------------|-----------------------|
B:-------------------------------------|-----------------------|
G:-------------------------------------|-----------------------|
D:-8-8-8-8--8-8-8-8---7-7-7-7--7-7-7-7-|-5-----5---5---5---5---|
A:-8-8-8-8--8-8-8-8---7-7-7-7--7-7-7-7-|-5-----5---5---5---5---|
E:-8-8-8-8--8-8-8-8---7-7-7-7--7-7-7-7-|-5-----5---5---5---5---|
                      ... and alone ...

  Riff 2 (Chorus?)

e:------------------------------------------------------------|
B:------------------------------------------------------------|
G:------------------------------------------------------------|
D:------------------------------------------------------------|
A:-0---3---5---7---3---0---3---0---3---0----------------------|
E:-0---3---5---7---3---0---3---0---3---0----4---5---7^~~~~--7-|

A few tips: Use your index finger on the second chord, middle finger
on the third chord, middle finger on the fourth chord, and
middle finger on the next two chords. These are the
fingerings that I think work best with the TAB.

Lyrics (not official):

I'm not around that much.
I'm near exhausted and lost.
If it could be undone,
Will it have cost it?
It's torn and alone

Knowing the way we strain
And tear, exhausted, and fall.
What if today I'd stayed in bed,
And was bored? Oh, we've gone
And fall.

After bliss is gone in bed,
Use caution. It's gone.
Even the breeze that's flowing.
There is caustic. And I talked.
And I missed it.
